ApplyBot: My Job-Search Copilot

Job hunting is mostly admin work.

You end up juggling a spreadsheet of companies, a folder of resume versions, an inbox full of replies, and a browser tab full of LinkedIn postings. None of these talk to each other, so you’re the one stitching it all together by hand.

That annoyed me enough to start building ApplyBot.

The Idea

ApplyBot is a personal workspace for a job search. The idea is simple: instead of five disconnected tools, put everything in one place.

  • Contacts — import people and companies from a CSV, search and tag them, keep notes.
  • Applications — track each application through stages (applied, interviewing, rejected, etc.), with reminders and a timeline.
  • Email — connect your inbox, and ApplyBot automatically matches replies to the right application, so you’re not hunting through your inbox to remember who replied to what.
  • Resume studio — write and edit your resume in the app, compile it to a real PDF, and keep versions linked to the applications they were used for.
  • LinkedIn search — pull in fresh job postings from LinkedIn and skip the noise (promoted posts, reposts).

The name promises more than it does today, though. Right now ApplyBot is closer to a smart tracker than a fully automatic job-applier. It does not fill out and submit applications for you yet — that’s the next big piece.

What Actually Works Today

  • Importing contacts from a CSV and searching/filtering them.
  • Creating and tracking applications, with stages, notes, and reminders.
  • Connecting a Hotmail inbox so replies get matched to the right application automatically.
  • Writing a resume, compiling it to PDF, and attaching it to an application.
  • Searching LinkedIn for jobs and filtering out noise.
  • Local backups, so your data isn’t locked away or lost.

Everything runs locally on your own machine, and your data stays on your own machine too.

What’s Still Missing

  • Actually auto-filling and submitting job applications.
  • AI help tailoring your resume to a specific job.
  • Batch outreach and automatic follow-ups.
  • Analytics on what’s working (response rates, etc.).

How Far Along Is It?

Honestly, around 40%. The tracking, resume, and email pieces already work well day to day. The “bot” part — the AI and automation features that give the project its name — is the part still ahead of me.

It’s a project I use myself while I job hunt, and I keep improving it as I run into new friction.
